Design for manufacturing

A multi-mode dispenser cap designed with molding in mind

This ketchup cap project brought together the dispensing features, seal, and grip in a compact part. The design work focused on making those details fit together while keeping injection molding in view.

The multi-mode dispenser cap design.1 / 1
The project brief

The cap needed mating parts and a seal, while its shape also had to account for grip and the limits of an injection-molded part.

Project scope

Multi-mode dispensing cap
Mating and seal geometry
Grip shape
Molding review
How we approached it
1
Work through the mating geometry

We developed the cap around the surfaces that meet, with the seal and dispensing features considered as part of the same design.

2
Check the shape for molding

We reviewed draft and part geometry as the model took shape, so manufacturing considerations were part of the CAD work rather than an afterthought.

3
Keep the grip practical

The outer form was shaped to feel comfortable to hold while preserving the cap’s dispensing function.

4
Prepare the model for review

The final CAD model brings the key design details together for review and further product development.

The compressor chamber CAD assembly.1 / 1
The project brief

The parts inside the chamber needed to fit as an assembly. The model also had to account for the internal flow path, access for service, and thermal deformation.

Project scope

Chamber assembly
Internal flow path
Thermal simulation
Service access
How we approached it
1
Build the assembly in CAD

We created a parametric model of the chamber and its internal components, keeping the assembly structure clear for design changes.

2
Check component fit and tolerances

The model includes tolerance considerations across the assembly so parts can be reviewed in relation to one another.

3
Review the flow path and heat

Internal flow and thermal behavior were considered during the design work, with simulation used as part of the project.

4
Plan for service access

The layout includes modular access to make the assembly easier to inspect and maintain.

The ORBAI spherical drone concept.1 / 1
The project brief

The spherical form had to make room for the payload and internal sensors without losing the overall shape of the product.

Project scope

Spherical drone concept
Payload housing
Sensor placement
Shell geometry
How we approached it
1
Plan the internal layout

We considered where the sensor package and payload could sit inside the spherical body.

2
Develop the shell

The CAD work focused on the outer shell and the space needed for internal components.

3
Refine the product form

We developed the model into a clear product concept that could be reviewed from multiple angles.

4
Create presentation renders

SolidWorks and KeyShot supported the modeling and visualization work.

The project brief

The holder and opener needed to fit into a small product while keeping the parts practical to manufacture.

Project scope

Beverage holder
Integrated bottle opener
Sheet metal design
Presentation renders
How we approached it
1
Set out the product layout

We arranged the holder and opener within the available space and checked how the parts meet.

2
Design for sheet metal

The CAD and drawings were prepared around a sheet metal manufacturing approach.

3
Prepare production files

The work included technical drawings and laser-cut DXF files.

4
Make the idea easy to review

Blender renders showed the finished product form for presentation.

The project brief

The locking parts needed to move together, with a reinforced cam profile and geometry that could be manufactured.

Project scope

Locking mechanism
Reinforced cam profile
Moving components
Part geometry
How we approached it
1
Map the locking motion

We worked through how the articulated locking geometry moves between positions.

2
Develop the cam profile

The cam profile was reinforced as part of the mechanism design.

3
Build a manufacturable model

Part geometry was developed with production in mind.

4
Check the assembly fit

We considered tolerances across the parts as they come together.
